30′ of Beauty

Beauty all around you.

The year following my cancer diagnosis everything was black and white.  No color spectrum in my life.  Now that I’m inching toward that “magic” five-year mark, color abounds.

I’ve always been a camera/photog freak, so taking pictures has always been part of my life.  I lug my camera around every place I venture; Better Half is used to me yelling at him to turn around or pull off the road.  Of course, out of every 500 pictures I take, only a small handful turn out the way I wish.  Thank goodness for digital cameras.

I tried an experiment yesterday evening.  Better Half and I were out in the woods, and while my typical modus operandi is to venture out amongst the acres taking pictures, this time I decided to take pictures only within 30′  of our fire.  I’ll spare you the 111 pictures I took (you’re welcome!), but it was nice to step back and challenge myself to find beauty in small things I normally don’t pay a lot of attention to: a leaf, a snail, wild flowers.  Take a step back and try to appreciate the wonder and beauty in your immediate surroundings.  Don’t miss the small things. . . .
